Computer Repair in Rancho Mirage, CA
Something has gone wrong with the computer and you would rather not spend the afternoon unplugging it, working out
which cable went where, and driving it across the valley to leave at a counter.
You do not have to. Desert Computer Agents comes to you in Rancho Mirage — the country club communities along
Bob Hope Drive, the neighborhoods off Frank Sinatra, and the offices around the medical campus. A fair amount of
what people call about we can fix remotely the same day, without anyone leaving the house.

Typical Calls
- A computer that will not start, or starts and never finishes loading
- Shutting down by itself, especially during summer
- Drives that are failing, and recovering what is on them while that is still possible
- Virus and malware cleanup, including the aftermath of a scam call or pop-up
- A machine that has gradually become unusable
- Replacing an old computer and moving everything across properly
- Wi-Fi that does not reach the whole house, and printers that keep disconnecting
- Getting photographs and documents off an old drive that nothing can read any more
Behind the Gate
Most of Rancho Mirage is gated, and that is a routine part of the job rather than an obstacle. Give us the community
and the gate when you call and arrange the clearance, and we will come to the house.
Working on site is usually better anyway. A computer is far easier to diagnose where it actually lives — on the
same network, beside the printer that will not cooperate, with the external drive still plugged in. A surprising
share of what gets reported as a computer problem turns out to be something else in the room, and you only find that
by being in the room.
The Scam Call Problem
This one comes up often enough here to be worth saying plainly. A pop-up appears claiming the computer is infected
and gives a phone number. Or someone calls saying they are from Microsoft, or from the bank's fraud department, and
asks to connect remotely to fix something.
They are not from Microsoft. Microsoft does not call people. If you have already let someone connect, the important
thing is not the computer — it is whatever accounts were open while they had access. Disconnect it from the
internet and call us, and call your bank. We will go through what they touched and what needs changing.
If you have not let them in and you are simply unsure whether a message is genuine, call and describe it. That takes
two minutes and costs nothing, and it is a much better use of everyone's time than finding out afterwards.
Seasonal Homes
If the house is occupied part of the year, autumn brings a familiar set of problems that are not actually failures.
Nine months of pending updates. Passwords that have expired. A printer that no longer recognises the network. A
backup drive that quietly stopped running in May.
It generally clears in a single session, and much of it can be done remotely before you arrive so the first week back
is not spent on it.
Heat and Dust
Summer afternoons here run past 110 degrees, and that is hard on anything with a fan — particularly equipment
in a garage or a room left uncooled while the house is empty. Fine desert dust settles into vents and heat sinks
until the cooling no longer works as designed, which shows up as throttling, constant fan noise, and eventually
shutdowns.
That is usually a cleaning rather than a replacement. Heat is also hard on laptop batteries: if the case will not
close flush or the trackpad sits unevenly, stop using the machine and call us, because a swollen battery is a safety
problem.
